A Message from the Chair

 Carol Newlon, Ph.D.

Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Our department has a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching. The research programs of departmental faculty members provide opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate research in exciting areas of contemporary biomedical science.

Together with the Public Health Research Institute Center of NJMS (formerly of New York City) and the National Tuberculosis Center of the New Jersey Medical School, the department is a founding member of the International Center for Public Health (ICPH). Our recent move (April 2002) into the new state-of-the-art ICPH research facility has provided us with beautiful, well-equipped and highly functional laboratory space and opportunities for the development of new joint graduate programs and research collaborations. We also continue participation in other NJMS joint programs, including the Center for Human and Molecular Genetics and the Center for Emerging and Reemerging Pathogens.

As you peruse our web site you will find information about our graduate and postdoctoral research programs as well as descriptions of individual research projects.
